Tackling the Provo River

This weekend, due to my brother, Jon's, great planning and tiresome efforts, we went tubing down the Provo River. It was a blast! We looked all over town for some cheap, usable tubes. We found tubes for $1 at the dollar store. Sweet! And they were in Spiderman and Spongebob squarepants. However, when we blew it up, it was only this big. Maybe if we were short lifejackets. But Preston found a good use for them. A little FYI: KMart has a great sale on their tubes, hence the matching tubes in the pictures. We bought a few and our friend brought a couple as well. However, as our luck would have it, one of our friend's tubes popped as they were filling it up so Jon proceeded to go to the base of the tubing run and convinced someone to give us their tube for $10. Not too bad.

Well, that was until we were just about to get into the water and the tube that Jon bought, yes, you were right. Popped. Not just popped a hole and started losing air, it exploded and the white liquid inside it that felt too similar to saliva was a little more than we could handle.
So, Jon being that wonderful brother that he is, took the fall and took pictures instead along the way so we could all ride. And boy was it fun!

The big, beautiful river.
The big, beautiful, overcrowded river.
Our group. We look pretty snazzy with matching tubes eh?
Not the best idea.
Not the best fishing spot buddy.
One of our personal favorites. These guys were riding a huge tire down the river.
The group after taking on the river. No one got hurt, or drowned, or popped another tube. We just had really numb butts.

FYI... you can purchase tire tubes (the huge, un-poppable ones at Big O for cheapo.)

Next time ;-)
