Bragging Time

So recently Preston had a Landscape Management Opening Social where they were excused from school to golf 18 holes with representatives from several different big companies throughout the U.S. Later that night, they were invited to a catered dinner with their families and each of the companies. After that, they had a career fair where everyone could network and possibly set up interviews for the following day. From there, each of the representatives were given a few football tickets so if they wanted to spend more time with some of the students they could.
Well, at the dinner we met George from Davey company who talked to us a bit before dinner. Once he found out that he was talking to the Preston he told us that he had read through all the resumes that afternoon and had picked out seven people that he wanted to interview, and Preston was one of them. WOW! Later he talked to another company that previously, Preston was very interested in called Heads Up. He was also asked to sign up for an interview there the next morning.
So the interviews went great. He was offered an internship with both companies (with only "officially" being in the major for three weeks).
The Heads Up company is based out of Albuquerque, NM. They loved Preston's resume and his experience not only in landscape but in business as well.
The Davey company is a national company so there are a lot of different routes Preston could take. George discussed possibly sending him to Michigan or Washington D.C. where they have a lot of high profile jobs and where Preston could gain a lot of experience.
George also gave Preston two of his football tickets so that Carl, Preston and I could go to the game with him that night! So off course we had to dress Carl up for the big game!

It was a lot of fun and Carl made it through the whole game. It was a lot of fun to get to know George and the Davey company a lot better. We even came to realize that he hadn't given out any more of his tickets to the game and had only offered Preston an internship with their company. In fact, others who had asked if they did internships were told that they were very selective in the internships that they give out and that they didn't have a whole lot of internships available. That's right people, my husband's incredible.

A few days ago, we heard back from George who not only spelled my name correctly (he gets a lot of points for that), but told Preston that he would like to keep in contact with him as he progresses through BYU and help where possible to make sure that he is well prepared for a successful career upon graduation. He also told him that he was part of the premier landscape management program in the U.S. and should be very proud of that.
So who can say what the future will hold, but I am so proud of Preston and all that he has done so far. It's exciting to see what the future will hold.
