Davey. The Internship.

I have had a great experience this summer in Maryland and Washington D.C. working for Davey Tree in their Commercial Grounds Management Division. This internship was an invaluable experience that helped me improve my knowledge and expertise in landscape management.
Much of my time was spent gaining experience on both installation and maintenance crews. We provided quality services from mowing to large tree installation in both residential and commercial applications. I was also given numerous opportunities to supervise installation projects and weekly maintenance routes. One such project was a large 138 tree installation job in Washington D.C. neighborhoods. This was a lengthy project that required the managing of labor hours, budgets, crews, and equipment.
I was given the opportunity to put together several estimates, bids, sales contracts and supervise the jobs through completion. Seeing the sales process from start to finish was a new experience for me and helped improve my accuracy in estimating and bidding.

It was also a unique experience to work on special projects of historical and national importance like Arlington National Cemetery and Andrew's Air Force Base. These projects were a lot of fun and beautifying these grounds provided a great deal of satisfaction.

The internship has enhanced both my technical skills and field experience, preparing me to succeed in the Green Industry.

Preston is just finishing up his last year of Landscape Managment at BYU. www.prestonwankier.weebly.com.
