Well, who can complain when you are in the nation's capitol for the Fourth of July. What an incredible place! There is so much history and there is so much that I want to learn more about. Being here at this time in my life has really inspired me and made me proud to be an American. So to say the least, this Fourth of July was really special. I really am fortunate to live in a country that declared its independence in 1776 so that we could afford the rights that we do today.
And what better way to celebrate that than to have an American BBQ?
Altogether, DELICIOUS food. Note: Emily's Salad from Favorite's cookbook=to die for. Peppers stuffed with goat cheese and cream cheese...mmmm. Homemade baked beans (remind myself to get that recipe from Mandi!) So good... and so full.
I contributed this lovely and frankly somewhat traditional cake to celebrate the holiday. Still tasted good. Can't go wrong with light cake, whipped cream, and fresh fruit on top. Should be a new Fourth of July tradition.
And Emily provided Carl with the best entertainment a little boy could ask for: POP ITS!
Don't forget the sparklers. Now doesn't that look describe a perfectly content boy?
And then came the best part. Carl had no idea what he was in for. He just knew that he was up way past bedtime, and that was awesome. We made our way to the Air Force Memorial (right by the Pentagon) and watched the fireworks.

Such a fun group to be with!
Here is our little American family dressed in our prided reds, whites, and blues. Happy Independence Day to one and all!
