Miss Hali dear came and paid us a visit! Woot woot! We started off the week and I took Hali grocery shopping... (because we were out of power up to a few hours before she came...previous post).
So... because we are so exciting we took her to our two-story Target! Yea, do you have one of those?
Then we drove around and we took her to the Washington DC temple! I absolutely love this temple and I think that it is extraordinarily beautiful! Especially as you are driving along the beltway and come over the hill and bam... it's right there!
I was hoping that the Visitor's Center would be open so we could show it off to her, but...with all the commotion around here, unfortunately the power was out and the Visitor's Center and temple were closed! Next time Hali!
The next day, we made our way downtown and met up with one of Hali's friends, Amanda. Amanda is an intern for Senator Hatch and was able to give us a tour of the capitol. If you go to Washington DC, you HAVE to get a tour of the capitol. There is so much history there and so much to learn! It definitely gives you an appreciation for your country.
As we made our way out, I was stopped by this Japanese guy who said, "Is that your little boy?" I told him he was and he then told me how cute he was. He asked if he could take a picture with him! "Ok." Ha ha! So Carl may be famous in Japan in a few years! Don't be jealous.
We made our way to a few of the museums. The Smithsonians are amazing here. My personal favorite is the American History Museum. There was a new exhibit there and look what was there:

The next day we went downtown again for some of the 4th of July festivities. You would have been proud of us braving out the heat because it was scorchin'!
We went to a few of the monuments...
and then found a spot to watch the fireworks. We were right by the Pentagon overlooking the cityscape. Perfect!
We met up with Auntie Em who brought all the fun stuff for Carl's entertainment.
It was a blast! Happy Fourth! I love my country!
The next day we went the National's game. We just picked the game out of the blue however it was a perfect night for a baseball game.
It was 1924 night! Back in 1924 the Washington "Senators" and the "New York" Giants played for the World Series. The Senators won in the 7th game. So all the players on both teams wore uniforms from the 1924 game. The grounds crew looked like they came right out of the Newsies with their hats and suspenders.
The announcers were all dressed up with old microphones and all. The big screen was in black and white and had the occasional static running across it. They even gave us a paper score sheet for us to take the score down (even though it was on the board too.) It was so much fun and the Nats played great.

After a late night we woke up a little later and then took another trip downtown to the Arlington National Cemetery. This place will always have a special place in my heart. We were able to see the changing of the guard and the beautiful grounds.
Then it was time for Hali to go! We had so much fun with her and were sad to say good bye. Thanks for coming to visit us and enjoying the Fourth of July week with us. We love you!
