BYU vs UVA

And our football legacy continues.  We just seem to gravitate towards these games.  Ü  For good reason I guess!

Well, BYU played their first game of the season against UVA in Virgina.  So, needless to say, OF COURSE we had to go.  We went down early and explored the campus and a little bit downtown the day before the game.  This campus is unbelievable.
Founded by Thomas Jefferson (if you couldn't tell by the architecture!). He considered it to be one of this greatest achievements.

He designed the Academical Village, a terraced green space surrounded by residential and academic buildings, gardens, and the majestic center-point, the Rotunda.  This Lawn and Rotunda have served as models for similar designs of a "centralized green area" at universities across the United States.  Interestingly enough, they still us these buildings to house faculty and elite students.
As we walked through downtown, we found a neat "Free Speech" board.  We had to take a few pictures of some of our favorite words... and add our own drawing.
And then came the long anticipated game.  I have to admit that field was unbelievably beautiful.  Surprisingly, there were BYU fans EVERYWHERE.  I'd probably say there was about 1/3 of the crowd cheering on the Cougars.  We had funny responses all over the place: "Where are all these BYU fans coming from?" and my personal favorite, "I've never seen so many babies before!"
Yes, our babies love the Cougars too.
Unfortunately, after the first quarter they had to evacuate the entire stadium due to a lightening warning in the area.  We snuck underneath an overhang to stay dry and waited out the two hour delay with ease.  In fact, Carl kept pulling my leg saying, "Come on Mom! Let's go back in. It's going to be fun!"  Then, after a tough battle, BYU lost in the end.  It was a heartbreaker.  You know... one of those that just a change in one play would have made the difference!  AAAHHH!
Oh well.  Don't you worry Cougs.  Carl was convinced that you still won.  In fact, I think he would have cried had he known the truth.  So as we were walking back to our car, he declared our "victory" to all the UVA fans around us saying, "Ha ha! We won!"  So embarrassing.  Ü

The next day, we took a leisurely drive home.  We decided to drive through Shenandoah National Park.  It was beautiful.  Nothing compared to the National Parks in Utah though.  The kids loved it though and we got some priceless pictures.
