My brother, Jon used to live here working for Senator Bob Bennett. He still has a lot of friends that live here and so we convinced him to take a trip out to come and visit us! Not to mention, we were able to see a lot of last minute things with him that we probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
For instance, the Capitol.
What an incredible place. We were given a great tour by Jon's friend, Cody. This is the rotunda of the Capitol. The ceiling is a painting depicting George Washington (God-like looking), surrounded by several personages who are supposed to be representing different parts of our nation.
Just below that is a gorgeous frieze. First time you see it, you'll have to take a double take to see if it is 3-D or 2-D. It is really quite an intriguing type of painting.
Then below that are several different large paintings representing different parts of American history.
Throughout the capitol are several statues of historical figures who have made a significant difference in our nation's history.
Recognize this big man? I'll give you a hint...he is one of the representatives from Utah.
I thought this particular star was interesting. When they designed the layout of Washington DC, they made this particular point the exact center of the city. It was actually made to be the burial ground of George Washington, however he deemed in his will that he wanted to be buried at Mount Vernon. So, nothing really came of it, except this nice looking star on the floor!

We took the trolley bus from the capitol to the Russell building. We were hoping to run into some cool Senator, but we rode it rather with a bunch of interns. (Jon had just ridden it earlier with John McCain).
Cody was great and took us to the balcony of the Russell building and to his office in the Rules and Regulations Committee offices. Carl took a liking in his chair and computer. We couldn't help but refer to him at the "Carl, the Intern." Forget that he just sat and watched Phineas and Ferb the whole time. So, he wouldn't be a very productive intern yet. One day maybe!
We absolutely loved the Capitol. Although I wish that I was more informed sometimes, it was motivating to be in the place where Congress made such important decisions (and still do). I am grateful for the service that these people render for us.
Not to mention, it was even better being there with my brother. He has always been so knowledgeable when it came to political topics. He has been extremely involved in the communities he has lived and has always stood up for what he believes in. I hope to be more like my brother, Jon. Always have been!
